The Niger State Police Command has arrested one Mrs Fine Joseph, 45, for allegedly inflicting life-threatening injuries on her nine-year-old maid in the Kwamba area, Suleja Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect was arrested by police detectives attached to the ‘A’ Division following a tip-off.
It was learnt that the suspect attacked the victim by tying her hands and legs and dipping the hands in boiling water.
The suspect was said to have carried out the act as punishment for the child’s failure to fetch water for domestic use.
Further checks revealed that the suspect locked the victim in a room without food for three days before neighbours called the police.
In an interview with our correspondent, Joseph, who showed no remorse for her action, said, “I lost my temper, beat her up and inflicted injuries on her, so that when I send her on an errand next time, she will obey immediately.”
The Niger State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, confirmed the incident.
He said the suspect had since confessed to the crime and would soon have her day in court.
