JERRY OBASI: AN UNREPENTANT IMPOSTOR

I was taken aback when my attention was drawn to the publication in the Sun newspaper in which one Jerry Obasi reacted to an interview the same paper granted me – just last week.
In the interview Jerry Obasi made many illusionary and bogus claims, which to the best of my knowledge he didn’t even have the right to make.
The truth is that Jerry Obasi was expelled along with five other rebellious members of the National Working Committee (NWC) on December 21, 2016 for anti-party activities by the National Executive Committee of APGA.
Before they were expelled in a unanimous decision Obasi served as the deputy national secretary of the party for one year and six months during which time he tried, working in concert with some shady characters in the NWC, to tear the party apart.
Anybody that knows Obasi very well would tell you without equivocation that he a very garrulous, evasive and rebellious character.
He is never a person anybody can work with confidently because he is flippant and easily swayed by money.
For the short period he was in APGA all he achieved was causing confusion all over the place.
Let us look back at his records as a party man. He was the chairman of APGA in Ebonyi State under Chief Victor Umeh’s administration.
For the period he held sway as a state chairman, APGA never won a single councillorship seat, let alone House of Assembly seat.
His tenure was characterized by malfeasance, misadministration and harassment.
In fact, he left a bag of scandals for the party as he left. So it was shocking when he was appointed into the NWC of the party in 2015.
As soon he assumed office as deputy national secretary he started scheming to torpedo the new leadership.
He ganged up with the late Ozo Nwabueze Okafor to try to unseat Dr. Victor Oye as national chairman.
In a nocturnal meeting at Ozo Nwabueze’s hotel in Abuja on October 4, 2016 where a plot was hatched to overthrow Oye’s regime he was in the forefront.
He tampered with the minutes of past meetings of the NWC and forged some documents which he and his co-conspirators leaked to the press. They even forged the signatures of some NWC members to create the impression that they were in the majority.
But luck ran out on the ‘coup’ plotters when the meeting of the NWC on October 5, 2016 held at the national headquarters of the party punctured every of their sinister moves.
They left the meeting which had successfully ended to meet again at the late Ozo Nwabueze’s hotel to continue with their plot, which in the end produced nothing but failure.
Ask questions: there is no member of the past or current NWC that does not have one sordid tale to tell about Obasi’s repulsive character and shady deals. None.

Up till today he is yet to pay the numerous persons he trickishly collected money from fir one reason or another. In his home state, Ebonyi, he touched the tiger’s tail when he tried, though unsuccessfully to hoodwink a powerful member of PDP that took him to court and sent him to Abakaliki Prison. It was the leadership of APGA in Abuja that paid heavily to release him on bail when the matter was finally called up in the court.
Let him tell the world what he does for a living if not cheating, name-dropping and deceit.
Obasi is an ungrateful person. All the people that bailed him out of trouble he had tried to undo, but failed.
Since his expulsion from APGA he has continued to speak about the party as if he still a valid member. As far as our records are concerned Obasi is no longer a member of APGA and does not have the right – legal or constitutional- to speak for it.
Granting an interview to Sun newspaper and making bogus claims about the party is the height of subterfuge, foolery and deceit.
He has continued to present himself as a member of the party to fleece unsuspecting members of the party.
When his father died last year he wrote a letter which he signed off as former deputy national secretary of APGA and sent to many important personalities, including the governor of Anambra State, soliciting financial support. Some of the people he contacted later confessed that they never knew he had been expelled from the party.
He used to boast before he was expelled from APGA that he was a political juggernaut and that the party would collapse without him. It is now over 4 years since he was expelled and the party is waxing stronger.
Let me ask: why hasn’t he been able to showcase his political prowess as he claimed by joining another political party? Why is he still seeking relevance in the party he made futile efforts to destroy before nemesis caught up with him?
We know for sure that he is now a fifth-columnist, double dealing with other political parties for pecuniary gain. That’s his stock-in-trade.
I found it very laughable when he said in the Sun interview that APGA might not have a candidate in 2021 governorship election in Anambra State? Indeed, only a political misfit and jobber could have made such a contemptuous and bogus claim. Is he mentally alright?
Again, he said that those at the helm of affairs in the party now, including myself, were foreign elements. How?
For Obasi’s information, I am a founding member of APGA in Onitsha South Local Government of Anambra State and have remained with the party till date. I have never been involved in any anti-party activity or done anything to impugn the integrity of our great party.
Because Obasi was never at any time a well-rooted member of the party he could not state for sure that I had remained a critical stakeholder of APGA in Anambra State.
My elevation to the National.publicity secretaryship of the party was a reward for many years of unalloyed serve to it. Why should Obasi begrudge me in such a heartless manner?
I wish to state at this point that we are used to Obasi’s boasting, wrong assumptions and wicked propaganda over the years. I only opted to respond to his latest interview because of the wrong impressions it created in some quarters.
With these clarifications, I think the best thing for him to do is bury his head in shame and continue to swim in his ocean of political oblivion.
