Chimamanda Adichie, award-winning novelist, accompanied
Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the last
elections, to the presidential election petition court on Tuesday.
Datti Baba-Ahmed, the LP vice-presidential candidate, was
also present in court alongside other political associates and supporters.
Adichie openly canvassed support for the LP candidate during
the 2023 electioneering campaigns.
In a letter addressed to US President Joe Biden in April,
Adichie expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the February 25 election.
She said the election was fraught with discrepancies and
irregularities which were overlooked by the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC).
Obi and his party had filed a joint petition in March
challenging the outcome of the poll, and had asked the court to nullify
Tinubu’s victory.
In their final written address dated July 20, the
petitioners insisted that Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima were not
qualified to contest the poll.
