The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC), Zamfara state command has three suspects and recovered 40 jerrycans of petrol (PMS) suspected to be transporting to bandits in the state.

The state NSCDC commandant, Sani Mustafa, who disclosed this while addressing newsmen at command headquarters in Gusau on Thursday, February 22, 2024, said one Sani Yakubu was also arrested for vandalizing electric cables at a secondary school in Gusau.

“On the 18 February, 2024, one Sani Yakubu (M) 41 years of age was arrested for vandalization of electric cables suspected to have been vandalized from Government Day Secondary School Tudun Wada Gusau,” he said.

He said that preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect is notorious for vandalization of electrical wires within the said school premises in the state.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to have vandalized electrical fittings and wires from the said school and sold the items to a crap dealer, Abubakar Ibrahim, at Labin labin area of Tudun Wada Gusau metropolis, at the rate of N23,000.

“On this fateful day, he broke into the school premises, burgled a window, and with the aid of a table, climbed into the ceiling and vandalized the electrification system of the school’s classroom block,”

Exhibits found with the suspect included 40 bunches of copper wires from the crime scene.

“On the 20th February 2024, at about 1501hours one Malam Isah Ahmed (M) of Bakura town was apprehended by the operatives of the Corps alongside two others by names, Usman Aliyu (M) and Habibu Abdullahi (M) for purchasing PMS products in large numbers of jerrycans in a black tinted Golf Wagon with registration number GMM 40 XA Zamfara, from Anshaibu Integrated Global Resource Limited, Talata Mafara.

“This act contravenes the Executive Order issued by the State Government on the banning the sale of PMS products in jerrycans,”

“This Order was an attempt by the State Government to cut off supplies of PMS to the marauding brigands. This singular act is charged with an attempt to commit an offence contrary to section 95 of the penal code.

“Exhibits found with the suspects include 40 jerrycans of 25 litres each loaded with PMS.”

Commandant Sani Mustapha vowed to ensure that the state is purged of all manner of criminalities.

He therefore warns the general public to stay away from crimes of any sort as offenders will be ruthlessly dealt with in the state.
