The Anambra State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on criminal activities with the arrest of two suspected cultists and armed robbers, the rescue of two raped victims, and the recovery of stolen items, including weapons and an abandoned vehicle.

In a press release issued by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, stated that the operatives of the Anti-Cultism Squad in Enugu Ukwu raided a black spot in Umunaga Village, Awka South LGA, on Saturday, December 7, 2024.

Acting on credible intelligence, the officers apprehended two suspects: 27-year-old Okechukwu Chinwuko from Umunaga Village and 22-year-old Ezenwa Chinedu from Umuneri Village.

According to SP Ikenga , the items ecovered from the suspects includes a pump-action gun, four live cartridges, a cutlass, criminal charms, and substances suspected to be hard drugs. During the operation, two female victims, who had been forcibly abused, were rescued by the police.

In a separate operation, SP Ikenga revealed that police operatives from Igbo-Ukwu Divisional Headquarters recovered an abandoned white Peugeot J5 Boxer bus with registration number AKL 896 XB.

Inside the vehicle, officers found a vandalized Lister electricity generator, industrial tools, and materials suspected to belong to fugitives or economic saboteurs.He also said that the suspects allegedly vandalized the MTN mast generator near St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Umudege, Igboukwu.

Upon spotting the police, the hoodlums fled the scene. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fugitives, and the command has urged residents to provide any useful information to aid their investigation.SP Tochukwu Ikenga commended the officers involved for their swift actions and reiterated the commitment of the police to combating crime across the state.
