Gov Ikpeazu Backs Ex Int'l Boxer To Boost Grassroot Boxing Development In Abia State

GOV. OKEZIE IKPEAZU SPORTS DIVERSIFICATION STRATEGY FOR HUMAN CAPACITY BUILDING THROUGH GRASSROOT DEVELOPMENT OF BOXING IN ABIA STATE.

The Hon. Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Emeka Ikwuagwu will flag off the much expected Grassroot Boxing Talent Hunt Exercise (GBTHE) on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Umuahia Township Stadium by 10am prompt.

This exercise will see Boxing Sports reintroduced and taken down to the youths in various Wards/Schools in our communities throughout the 17 Local Government Areas where discovery can be easily achieved.

Recall, the Governor’s mandate in Sports discovery, diversification and moulding budding talents from the hinter lands hence giving these discoverees State, National and International exposures while positively engaging youths and directing focus towards using Sports to make a living.

Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo who was recently appointed the Ambassador for Boxing, Abia State on the 19th Dec.of 2020 was charged and drafted to co-ordinate Grassroot Boxing Talent Hunt Exercise across 17(Seventeen) LGA of Abia State.

Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo was a Former National Light Weight Boxing Champion for Abia State (1992). Former Light Welter Weight International Boxing Champion for Nigeria.The Boxing Technical Adviser and coordinator who discovered the team that represented Abia State at the National Grassroot Youth Games(under 15) in Kwara State (2019).

This exercise promises to show case Abia State Sports as always in limelight.
