Traders at Old Mercedes Parts Dealers Market, popularly known as Mgbuka Nkpor, in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State , are counting their losses after fire razesd down their goods worth millions of naira , and also destroyed their source of livelihood.
It was garthered that the fire started at about 11pm on Wenesday night , 21st April 2021.
Mostly affected in the inferno that destroyed wares estimated into millions of naira, were the Divine , Favour and Unity lines section.
Urging the victims to take heart when he physically visited the scene of the incident to acquint himself with the extent of damages, the state Commissioner of Trade, Markets, Commerce and Wealth Creation, Hon Uchenna Okafor, vowed to meet with Governor Willie Obiano, with a view to assisting the victims.
He described the situation as unfortunate and urged the victims not to despair as the state government would compile their names for assistance.
Crying, one of the victims, Mr Vincent Emma Eke, said that, “I am finished, I lost over #1.5million worth of wares and my children are in school. As I am crying now I don’t have up to #5,000 in the world now. I lost cash of #42,000 i kept in my shop.
Please let government and other good spirited individuals come to my rescue”
Also another victim who simply identified himself as Raymond, said he lost millions in the inferno.
“I have not seen this type of fire that even melted the irons in the market, we have been rendered pocketless by the inferno and need help”.
The early arrival of fire fighters was said to have saved the entire market from being gutted by fire. Courtesy of the Commissioner who was said to have started making calls to the fire fighters when the inferno started.
