Police arrest 5, recover 3 arms, ammunition in Anambra

The Police Operative in Anambra State has arrested five suspects for various criminal offences ranging from armed robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm, stealing , following a cult-related incident that occured in the late hours of 18th April, 2021. in the state .

The incident resulted in the gruesome murder of two yet-to be identified young men at Miralce Junction by Unizik back gate, Ifite Awka.

Police Operatives quickly mobilized to the scene. The hoodlums on sighting the police took to their heels. During the hot chase by police operative, (5) five suspects were arrested and investigations is ongoing to apprehend other fleeing gang members.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ikenga Toochukwu ANIPR, in a statement said that police operatives recovered some of the exhibits from the suspects , these are includes, one English-made pistol, one locally- made pistol, five live cartridges and two motorcycles.

“Preliminary investigation shows that the suspects were arrested by police operatives on patrol, who flagged down the suspects when they drove in a suspicious manner along Nise route. They all voluntarily confessed to be members of Payton Confraternity.

In a related development, Ikenga said that at about 7pm on 16th of April, 2021 Police Operatives attached to Anti-cultism unit of the Command, arrested three suspects namely: Chinedu Aniegbunam ( aged 23years,). Okoye Tochukwu (aged 17years). and Okechuwu Chijioke (aged 23years): all males.

The police spokesman said that all the suspects would be charged to court on the conclusion of their respective investigation.

Meanwhile, The Commissioner of Police CP Monday Bala Kuryas fsi, has reassured the public that the Command under his watch will continue to purse criminals from all nooks and crannies in the state, and will involve the communities in ensuring safety of lives and property in the State.

“The CP, while commending the efforts of the operatives, has charged them to sustain the tempo; even as he also reaffirms the Command’s commitment to rid the state of unrepentant criminal elements,’’ he added .
