Worried by the spate of jungle justice on suspected persons being recorded in recent time, the Anambra State Police Command on Friday, warned residents to desist from engaging in such act, as it not only violates the laws of the land but also dents the image of the State.
The State’s Commissioner of Police , Mr. CP Chris Owolabi first of all thanked the members of the public for assisting the Police in apprehending suspected criminals also urged them to always exercise restraint by not taking the law into their hands.
In a statement by the State Command’s Spokesperson, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu Anipr , CP Owolabi while giving this warning , said that they should endeavour to take such suspects to the nearest Police Station whenever they are apprehended. This would afford the Police the opportunity to conduct appropriate investigation into the nefarious activities of the suspects; and bring them to justice in accordance with extant laws.
“There is no justification for jungle justice on suspected persons. It is barbaric and uncivilized. It is a manifestation of the erosion of our moral values and a disregard to sanctity of human lives. It violates the rule of law and dents the image of the State.,” Owolabi said.
