Anambra Market Leaders Elect New ASMATA President, Executive Members

Barely few weeks of lifting ban on market election in Anambra State by the State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano , the leadership of Anambra State Market Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA,) have conducted and elects 17 Man representative of the association , expressed their excitement over the winning of ASMATA President General , Chief Ikechukwu Ekwegbalu .

It was gathered that the representatives of the sixty-five major markets in Anambra state have elected the executive of Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA).

The elective which was held on 1st July, 2021 at the Traders House, No. 16 Modebe Street, Onitsha elected the Chief Ikechukwu Ekwegbalu led executive council for a period of four years.

The election was mornitored by the state Commissioner for Trade and Commerce , Hon. Uchenna Okafor , saw the emergency of Ikechukwu Ekwegbalu , as the new President General of ASMATA.

Speaking shortly after the eiection, the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce commended the traders for the orderly manner with which they conducted themselves before and after the exercise.

Hon. Okafor shows the express happiness on a peaceful conduct of the election , assured the traders of government supoort to market condusive for commercial activities.

While appreciating and congratulating the traders for holding a free, fair and transparent election appealed to them to continue supporting APGA in view of the upcoming Governorship election scheduled to hold on November 6, 2021.

” You all are partners with the state. Markets are treated as another tier of government here in Anambra. That’s why under the community choose a project initiative of Governor Willie Obiano, your markets received N10m each to build infrastructure that will benefit the traders.”

” When the COVID 19 pandemic broke out, the government fumigated your markets and as a way of cushioning the effect of the virus on the livelihood of traders, Governor Willie Obiano graciously approved a 10% tax refund for all the traders which AGRs paid in full”, he said

Continuing, Chief Okafor Wiper reminded the traders that APGA and State Government have taken a decision on APGA candidate and running mate (Prof. Charles Soludo and Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim) and appealed to them to as always deliver them for the government and party.

The newly elected president of ASMATA, Chief Ikechukwu Ekwegbalu , who spoke on behalf of other members of the executive , pledged the readness to work for the traders .

Mr. Ekwegbalu also expressed appreciation to the traders for finding him and other executive members worthy of managing their affairs for the next four years.

He also commend the maturity and comportment of the traders during the election and charged the new leadership to see their election as service to God and humanity.

Chief Ekwegbalu thanked the Commissioner for his sterling leadership qualities thanked Governor Willie Obiano for the security and tranquil environment ndi Anambra enjoy and promised to maintain peace in all the markets.
