Handcuff On Kanu Means Handcuff On Every Igbo – Bishop Blasts Joe Igbokwe
The Bishop of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Onitsha Diocese, Rt Rev. Biereonwu Livinus Onuagha, has said the rearrest of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, was an indication that Igbos have been handcuffed.
Onuagha made the remark while berating Joe Igbokwe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and other Igbo people celebrating the rearrest of Kanu.
The cleric maintained that people of the Southeast celebrating Kanu’s rearrest are naive.
In a press statement he signed, Bishop Onuagha likened Igbokwe to Biblical Sanballat and Tobias.
He said: “Some people are rejoicing that Nnamdi Kanu has been arrested. Others are not happy because of that. The chase after Nnamdi Kanu is a misplaced priority. To me, any Igbo person openly criticising Kanu now is a lost soul, a bastard and a naive person. No apology.
“Those Igbos rejoicing like Joe Igbokwe in Lagos are only ignorant of the handwriting on the wall. Let me refer him to the Scripture if he reads his Bible: ‘By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, and there we wept when we remembered Zion.
Handcuff On Kanu Means Handcuff On Every Igbo – Bishop Blasts Joe Igbokwe
“Joe Igbokwe does not know or understand that handcuffs on the hand of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, is handcuffs on the hands of every Igbo man. If I may ask, why is Joe Igbokwe thanking God for the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu?
Describing Igbokwe as selfish, the clergyman wondered how many investments the APC chieftain has in the Southeast.
“He is only making himself a Tobias or Samballat,” he added.
The IPOB leader had jumped bail and escaped from Nigeria in 2017.
However, Kanu was a few weeks ago arrested and repatriated back to Nigeria to face his trial before Justice Binta Nyako of an Abuja Federal High Court.
Upon his return, Kanu was brought before Justice Nyako, who remanded him in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, till the next adjourned date.
Following Kanu’s rearrest, Igbokwe, an aide to Governor Babajide Sanwoolu of Lagos State, shared a photo of himself thanking God.
