Lagos vows to implement VAT law despite court ruling
Lagos State Government has vowed to go ahead to implement the newly signed Value Added Tax, VAT Law in the state, saying the Court of Appeal order “is not binding on it”.
The Court of Appeal had ordered both Rivers and Lagos States to maintain status quo on the collection of VAT, pending the determination of an appeal that was lodged before it by the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, made the comment while reacting to the order.
Omotoso maintained that the order is not binding on Lagos State as it has not been joined in the suit yet by the court.

Govt will not provide land for ranching in Delta – Aniagwu
Delta Government says it will not acquire any land for the purpose of of ranching in the state as reported in certain quarters.
The State Commissioner for Information, Mt Charles Aniagwu, made the clarification in a statement he issued on Friday in Asaba.
He said that ranching and livestock breeding, rearing and marketing was private business…..

Rivers, Lagos govts’ VAT battles and true federalism
The Rivers State Government recently taught us a meaningful lesson; that our idea of constitutional and legal provisions grows through court interpretations. It is not every change that depends on a constitutional amendment.
Just when you thought that you had heard all the absurdities, a Federal Inland Revenue Service official came to lower the bar of absurdities down into the gutter. Group Lead, Special Operations Group, of the FIRS, Mr. Mathew Gbonjubola, in Abuja on Wednesday, September 8, said: “There is nowhere in the world where the administration of VAT is done at the sub-national level.”
Could someone please bring Mr. Mathew Gbonjubola up to date on this score: one, that only four other countries in the whole world….

Ex-monarch suspended by Obiano for visiting Buhari killed by unknown gunmen
Unknown gunmen have killed the former traditional ruler of Mkpunando Aguleri in Anambra East local government area, Igwe Alex Edozieuno along the Ezu Bridge, Otuocha.
The former monarch, 62, was allegedly killed alongside his driver, Chukwuemeka.
It was not clear at press time what led to the killing, some people in the area believed it was a pure assassination.
Edozieuno was one of the 12 traditional rulers in the state suspended last year by Governor Willie Obiano for visiting President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja in the company of the billionaire oil magnate, Prince Arthur Eze.
Following the incident, his subjects subsequently dethroned him and crowned another traditional ruler……

Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) on Wednesday 8th September 2021 gave details of how loads of Captagon, a brand of Amphetamine meant for insurgents’ camps in Nigeria were intercepted by operatives of the Agency at the Apapa port in Lagos.
Speaking at a media briefing to update the public on the recent seizure, Marwa condemned the evil intent of those behind the importation of the illicit substance into the country at a very critical time when the nation is facing some security challenges.
