VAT: Five northern states, two South-West, two South-South among top beneficiaries
VAT: Five northern states, two South-West, two South-South among top beneficiaries
Five northern states, two south-western states, two south-south states, and one south-eastern state collected a total of N373.84bn of the N836.51bn Value Added Tax allocation available for states in 14 months.
This is according to the latest FAAC allocation data available from the National Bureau of Statistics for the months of January 2020 through to February 2021.
In the period under review, the thirty-six states of the federation and the Federal Government shared N1.09tn as VAT revenue from the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee.
The top 10 states were: Lagos (N153.94bn), Kano (N32.48bn), Oyo (N29.85bn), Rivers (N28.43bn), Kaduna (N24.75bn), Katsina (N22.72bn), Delta (N20.91bn), Bauchi (N20.49bn), Anambra (N20.14bn), and Jigawa (N20.13bn).

FG’s GDP growth meaningless with rising poverty – Obi
THE vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 general elections, Peter Obi, has faulted the latest National Bureau of Statistics report which stated that the country’s economy has recorded a five per cent growth to Gross Domestic Product growth.
He added that growth with rising poverty in the country was meaningless.
Obi spoke on Sunday evening when he featured on a Channels Television programme, ‘Politics Today’.
He specifically said rather than celebrating growth to GDP, which had no impact in the citizenry, the Federal Government should stop borrowing for consumption and face investment.
The former governor of Anambra State said the fact that the Federal Government had been borrowing money and spending it on consumption had not made the NBS report to make significant impact in the lives of an average Nigerian.
Obi noted that the Federal Government should concentrate on the small and medium enterprises, education as well as target its citizens in the Diaspora if it really wanted to make significant impact in the lives of its citizenry…….

Soludo’s assets: CJN orders disciplinary action against FCT judge

The Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the National Judicial Commission, Tanko Muhammad, has directed the Federal Capital Territory Judicial Service Committee to commence disciplinary action against the judge of the Upper Area Court who issued criminal summons against the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo.
The spokesperson of the NJC, Soyi Oye, disclosed this in an interview with The PUNCH on Sunday.
Oye said the CJN gave the directive because the Upper Area Court acted outside its jurisdiction.
“The CJN gave the acting CJ of the FCT a directive as the Chairman of the Judicial Service Committee of the FCT to commence disciplinary action against the judge of the Upper Area Court in Abuja who asked Soludo in Anambra to come and declare his assets,” he said……
