An Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ifetedo on Friday, remanded 29-year-old Adeyele Sesan, in Nigerian Correctional Centre, over alleged rape of a 3-year-old girl.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb 18, 2020 around 11:00 am at Ifetedo.
Osanyintuyi said the defendant unlawfully had the carnal knowledge of the 3-year-old girl and also unlawfully and indecently assaulted the girl (Names withheld).
According to him, the defendant unlawfully forced his manhood into the private part of the 3-year-old girl
The Prosecutor stated further that the defendant unlawfully attempted to kill the 3-year-old girl by covering up her mouth with his hand during the assault.
Osanyintuyi explained that the defendant forcefully had carnal knowledge of her till she was bleeding from her private part and eventually fainted for hours.
He said that the offence contravened sections 3(1), (2), of the Child’s Right, Laws of Osun, 2007 and 320 (1), 355 and 360 of the criminal Code Laws of Osun, 2002.
The Defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge of unlawful carnal knowledge, assault, defilement and life threatening preferred against him.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Yomi Ogunlola, pleaded for the bail of the defendant in most liberal term and pledged that his client would not jump bail, but provide reliable sureties.
Magistrate Joseph Owolawi, refused the oral bail application for the defendant, but asked the defence counsel to come with formal application for the consideration of his bail.
Owolawi added that the defence counsel should duplicate the case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution.
He therefore, ordered for the remand of the defendant in Ile-Ife Nigerian Correctional Centre and the case was adjourned till March 25, for hearing.
