Congress Will Have Its Say If I Am Elected Kaduna NUJ Chairman – Farida
Frontline candidate for the NIgeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council Elections billed for December 16, Farida Abubakar has assured that if elected, she would allow the congress determine decisions taken
She gave the assurance on Wednesday, while on a campaign tour to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Kaduna office.
She explained that if given the chance, the congress would be empowered to guide her decisions on how to move the council forward.
“It would be democratic all through. We would be completely accountable to those who elected us, completely out to serve them,” she added.
Speaking further, she said that constitutionally, according to the NUJ Statutes, the credentials committee alone is allowed to conduct elections, with the National Secretariat only playing advisory roles.
On the issue of employment clause in the NUJ Constitution, she said that she was offered employment with Kabido Newspapers before she purchased form for election.
“In the NUJ Constitution, a member is covered for a period of six months after job loss before losing benefits. I was offered employment and it was later withdrawn weeks after, based on that, I am qualified to contest for the council polls,” she added.
Responding on behalf of NAN, Ezra Musa apologized for not having all their members around.
“We are sorry you are not meeting a full house. We are happy you have been cleared and we look forward to the election.
“You have put up a good campaign team, we wish you all the best and are looking forward to the polls,” he said.
Also speaking, Aisha Gambo said that she is glad to listen to Farida’s campaign speech and is wishing her the best at the polls.
In her remarks, Hussaina Mohammed prayed for a rancour free polls.
In his vote of thanks, Bashir Lawal Zaria said that he pitched his tents with Farida because she has capacity to take NUJ to greater heights.
