Opinion: Dangote going into car assembling business, no a bad idea
Since the news that Dangote’s automobiles will make it’s debut into the Nigerian automobile market broke out last week, so many people took to their social media handle to register their displeasure about the move.
To me, I didn’t see anything bad/wrong in Dangote going into car assembling business like our own Innoson, rather I see it as an economic opportunity for the teeming unemployed youths basically those that left school for years without any job. While some people see it as an intimidation to Innoson, I see it as way of Nigeria moving to self sufficiency in car manufacturing industry. Japan, China Germany etc didn’t arrive there because one company was producing cars, these countries were able to attain that self sufficiency in car manufacturing industry because they opened the doors of the industry wide open for any investor, like what we are seeing in our telecommunications industry today. This can only make Innoson Vehicles to speed up it’s game in the sector and it will go a long way in breaking the chains of monopoly in the sector, no company will be able to monopolize the sector to itself personal gain
Imagine, Nigeria having about 10 car assembling companies in virtually all the regions in the country, do you know how many people that will be gainfully employed and taken off the streets??. Let’s applaud Dangote for even buying off the company from France and turning it into a full local car manufacturing company
Any of your relation can be gainfully employed in that company or in any of the Dangote’s companies, so let’s stop the hating and support each other’s business. After all 80% of igbos that made it in business/politics will always acknowledge the northerners and other tribes, Igbos were not known to be this hateful and bigotry! We are known to be business people, imagine if other people from other regions start avoiding our businesses, do you think we will be able to be building fine fine houses in our villages and throwing big parties anytime we come back to the East.
