Opinion: Peter Obi’s declaration, A good decision at the wrong time

As H.E Mr. Peter Obi is set to declare his intention to contest for president of Nigeria, I don’t see it as a realisable project at this point in time.

The 2023 Presidential interest of South East died long time ago. It died the moment those who supposed to speak kept mute on salient political issues.

Till date, I give credit to the West (Yorubas) the way their handle Fulani herdsmen inversion. A lot of people may not know that Fulani herdsmen created havoc that led to death of many in the west. They intelligently saw the move, acted meticulously and created “Amatekun” to stop them. The “Amatekun” activities and infight of Fulani herdsmen were kept far from the media for political reasons. Today, the west and North are in good terms.

The Igbo elites allowed some groups of people to play dangerous and damaged publicity with Fulani herdsmen in South East. I blame the political class who couldn’t see ahead of time to know that their ineptitudes have endangered our presidential ambition in 2023.

Opinion: Peter Obi’s declaration, A good decision at the wrong time

The same group who took over the Fulani media propaganda proceed to imprint a very bad Orientation in the hearts of our people that Voting is bad. Today, we are asking for president when we have created a horrible deficiency. We don’t vote and we are enemies to those who vote.

I still believe that for South East to produce president, two steps need to be taken. First, we must be backed by Presidency and use federal might to achieve it. Secondly, we need to allign with a region, get VP position and become part of Government, then, lunch our ambition with Federal power.

Our people are good in telling history without looking at the peculiarities of the environment. The history of when the West produced president should not be discussed at all because the two environments aren’t the same.

Our people need to be re-orientated on importance of voting before we speak about Presidency. No sensible political party will hand Igbo man their presidential ticket at this point in time. Peter Obi shouldn’t waste his resources and as well keep himself far from the reality.
