Gunmen Kill One In Imo, Say ‘No Election In Biafraland
Some gunmen have again reportedly attacked the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Imo State, killing one person.
The gunmen numbering about 20 stormed the INEC office at Ahiazu local government headquarters in two SUVs on Saturday.
The hoodlums reportedly wore attire suggesting they were members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
ESN is the militant wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a secessionist group seeking to break away from Nigeria.
The hoodlums reportedly searched for INEC workers distributing permanent voter cards (PVC) but discovered that the officials were yet to arrive for work, Daily Post reports.
However, when they could not find any INEC staff member, they reportedly beckoned on a vigilante identified as Ekene from Umuokirika Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, standing amid people who came to collect their PVCs.
When they could not force him into the boot of one of their vehicles, they shot him twice in the head and chanted ‘no election in Biafra land’, then zoomed off through Mbaise -Aba branch Road.
The dead body of the guard has been deposited at a morgue.
Meanwhile, efforts made by SaharaReporters to speak with the Police Public Relations Officer of the state police command, CSP Mike Abattam, were unsuccessful as he did not immediately respond to enquiries regarding the attack. Continue reading
