Americans in 2020 are less happy than they have been in the last 50 years.

A new poll conducted through the COVID Response Tracking Study at the University of Chicago found that more Americans in 2020 are less happy than they have been in the last 50 years.

The study found that only 14% of American adults would say they are ‘very happy,’ the lowest number in nearly 50 years. Prior to 2020, the lowest recorded percentage of ‘very happy’ adults was 29%. During the same week in 2018, 31% of American adults reported themselves as ‘very happy.’

The number who said they felt isolated also rose from 23% in 2018 to 50% in 2020. The study also saw a decline in hope that the next generation would see better living conditions.

However, the report indicated that people were less likely to report emotional or physical stress symptoms than respondents post-9/11 and after JFK’s assassination.
