Akwuzu, Anambra State – In a decisive move to bolster police accountability and reinforce security operations, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, on Thursday led Governor Chukwuma Soludo on a facility assessment tour of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) formation in Akwuzu.

In a statement issued to newsmen by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer Anambra State Command, stated that the visit comes amid intensified efforts by the Command to re-arrest suspects linked to the brutal murder of Hon. Justice Azuka, a lawmaker representing Onitsha 1 Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly. Addressing the Governor, CP Orutugu highlighted strategic measures being implemented to ensure such violent incidents do not recur.

According to SP Ikenga, ss part of sweeping reforms, the Commissioner of Police has initiated a reorganisation of the RRS unit, introducing structured suspect interviews and stricter accountability measures.

The statement also stated the move aims to enhance transparency in police investigations, strengthen evidence gathering, and restore public confidence in the justice system.

Governor Soludo reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to securing lives and property in the state, praising the police for their proactive steps in crime prevention.

The restructuring of the RRS, according to CP Orutugu, will enhance professionalism, facilitate successful prosecutions, and improve security operations across Anambra.

The visit underscores a renewed focus on law enforcement reforms, community trust-building, and operational efficiency, positioning the Anambra State Police Command as a model of effective policing in Nigeria.
