The President General of Oba community, Idemili South Local Government Area, Anambra State, Rev Chris Afam Emelie and other prominent people of the community Wednesday described as false and unfounded, the rumour making the round in some quarters that a land dispute between two families at (Ugbo/Ngbo land) was a plot for a kidnap bid by some sons of the soil.

Denying the allegation, the PG who said his focus presently was on how to move the community forward and create enabling environment for the unemployed youths that were hungry through provision of skill acquisition centres for self reliance, added that the people alleged to have been involved in the kidnap bid were men of sterling qualities who have assisted in the development of the community and in their defferent fields of human endeavours.

“The issue of kidnap shouldn’t come in, it was a land issue, some people came to survey their land with camera and on the process a group of youths came and wanted to know why they were doing that and it resulted in crisis”.

“One of the men who came to survey the land was professor Azubogu, is he the one that has come to kidnap the youths in the bush?

In a bid to ensure they came in good faith they were asked to make calls and the professor called a prominent son and community leader, Nze Ifeanyichukwu Onwupenata (a.k.a. Obiaomee) who ordered them to stop whatever attack on the prof and his group immediately and they did” he stated.

It was gathered that these youths have land there also and both warring factions are related and from the same kindred.

Contacted, Nze Onwupenata corraborated the position of the PG adding that, “there was nothing like kidnap bid rather it was a ploy by some enemies of progress to drag my good image and others to the mud.”

He added that he would not be detered by the antics of such people from contributing to the development of the community adding that he is contributing his quota for God and humanity.

Also reacting, the secretary of the Peace committee in the community, Nze Dennis Chimezie Muozelu, said that, “I was with Nze Onwupenata when Prof. Azubogu called him on phone and told him that some youths were attacking them and he told the Prof. to give the phone to one of them and he did.”

“Nze Onwupenata is not a kidnapper but a God-sent man to help develop the community. He asked the youths to stop attacking them and leave the place immediately and they obeyed because they know he is a man of the people and community leader .The youths were about five of them so how could they be kidnapped”.

“They only want to tarnish his image, I know this rumour monger as an enlightened and educated person and I don’t expect such thing from him”

There were allegations of seizure of the handsets, camera and machetes of the professor and his group by the youths but such items were said to have been returned immediately to them on the order of Nze Onwupenata.
