Anambra Market Leader Laments Over Refuse Situation, Plead For Govt Intervention

More than half of market premises at Grain Seed Dealers Association and Tomatoes Market in Idemil North Local Government of Anambra State , have been taken over by heaps of refuse thereby making both human and vehicular movement almost difficult.

Our reporter who went round the market , reports that the bins, stationed at designated points , were full to the brim, thereby forcing residents to dump refuse by the roadside and walkways.

Speaking to Journalist in Onitsha , the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Grain Seed Dealers Association , Prince Charlse Ikegwuonu said it was disheartening to note that the refuse collectors have not come to clear the refuse for few days and urged the waste management agency to urgently initiate measures to address the development.

Prince Ikegwuonu decried the situation, saying that it portended grave danger to the people’s health, as failure to evacuate the refuse could provoke an outbreak of diseases.

” We have started burning refuse in some of the dumpsites beside our market premises and thereby causing pollution, especially in this hot weather, Ikegwuonu Stated ”

He pleaded with the relevant authority to help them in evacuating the refuse , causing incessant with offensive odour oozing out from the site, in order to safeguard their health.

Prince Ikegwuonu expressed gratitude to the new government led by Professor Chukwuma Soludo , and his Deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim , for the move pledging their unalloyed support.

He also described the action of the Governor as worthy and called on the people to give the Governor their maximum support to make the state better,and
promised to key into the state government’s environmental sanitation initiative.

He advised both the traders and the residents to assist in keeping the environment clean by discouraging disposal of wastes into the drainage.
