Anambra Police Arrest ‘Gun Lender’ Allegedly Aiding Criminal Activities in Awka

The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a 42-year-old man, Friday Emenike, also known as “Ekpo,” for allegedly providing firearms to criminals for illicit operations around Awka and neighboring areas. Emenike, a native of Izzi Local Government Area in Ebonyi State, is suspected of facilitating various criminal activities by renting out weapons.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Anambra State Police Command, reviewed this in a press release issued to the newsmen in Awka stated that the arrest follows an earlier operation on December 7, 2024, by the Anti-Cultism Squad in Umunaga Village, Awka South LGA. The raid led to the capture of two suspects, Okechukwu Chinwuko (27) and Ezenwa Chinedu (22), along with the recovery of one pump-action gun, three live cartridges, a cutlass, criminal charms, and suspected hard drugs. During the operation, police also rescued two female victims reportedly subjected to sexual abuse by the suspects.
SP Ikenga confirmed the development during further interrogations, the suspects confessed that they rent guns and weapons from one Ekpo. This prompted swift action by our operatives, leading to his arrest. The case will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.”
He also commended the operatives for their dedication and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement.
