Onitsha, Feb 18, 2025 – In a decisive move to strengthen security in Anambra State, operatives of the Awada Divisional Headquarters intercepted and arrested a suspect found in possession of a locally fabricated Beretta pistol during a routine foot patrol at Upper-Iweka, Onitsha.

From to the statement issued by Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer stated the arrest, which took place around 8:00 PM, followed the intensified security directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu.

SP Ikenga also that the suspect, identified as Orji Chigozie, was reportedly caught with the concealed firearm inside a bag.

According to SP Ikenga, the preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect may be linked to criminal activities in the area. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for further interrogation and legal proceedings.

The Anambra State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring public safety and has urged residents to provide useful information that could help in crime prevention efforts.
