Anambra Police Thwart Cult Clash, Arrest Suspect, And Recover Evidence From Shooting Scene in Abagana

Operatives of the Anti-Cult Unit of the Anambra State Police Command successfully disruptedW a planned clash between rival cult groups in Ezichike Community, Abagana, on January 25, 2025. Acting on credible intelligence, officers stationed in Enugwu Ukwu arrested Maduka Okoye, a 25-year-old suspected cultist from Abagana, around 1:30 p.m.
According to press release from SP Tochukwu Ikenga, At the scene of the shooting, the police recovered three expended cartridges from a pump-action gun. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Baggars Confraternity.
The suspect revealed that he and a friend were drinking at a local beer parlour when they were attacked by members of the rival Axe Men Confraternity.
SP Ikenga also stated that the police responded swiftly, restoring calm in the area and preventing further violence.
Meanwhile, the suspect is currently aiding ongoing investigations, with efforts underway to apprehend the fleeing gang members and other identified individuals involved in the attack.
SP Ikenga emphasized the Command’s commitment to combating cult-related violence and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
