Spread the love

On Saturday when Team Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo with some Sports writers visited the private ward at Ituku Ozalla UNTH Enugu.

Where Nigeria Ex International Boxer Mr Ngozika Ekwelum lodged.

Waiting for activation of UNTH Radio Therapy machine.

Which was at a bad state for now.

The major machine for the treatment of cancer of bladder.

It was discovered that Anambra State Government had abondon Ngozika Ekwelum to die in the Hospital

Being owned contract fee even in his state of Origin,

The man who contributed so much in development of youth and Sports in Nigeria,

Both at Former Eastern States

And Anambra State in particular.

Mr Ngozika Ekwelum was the sports set of, Chairman Christian Chukwu. The Former National coach Football and Manager of Rangers international.

Mr Ngozika Ekwelum won Africa Heavy weight Boxing Title in the same year His former Anambra State sports mate in football won Africa Nations cup for Rangers International of then Old Anambra state.

Mr Ngozika Ekwelum was called to return to Nigeria to develop Boxing in the Former Anambra state by HRH the Current Igwe Eze uzoo of Awka .

Who was then the Chairman of then Anambra state Boxing Association and Boxing promoter.

“During that era” It was by Mr Ngozika Ekwelum effort and influence that boxers discovered from various LGA through Technical School Sports and others were brought to Enugu for further development.

which has produced overwhelming results in this era.

Among the boxers discovered from Nsukka Axis are :
Prof Reuben Ibekwe. Who is now a Health Workers.

Mr Celestine Ezeugwu, who is now an administrator, as the Manager Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium,Enugu.

Awgu Axis are Mr Blaise Ozoemena Ude.The Deputy Director. Coaching and the Chief Coach of Enugu State Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Among Nigeria Ex international boxers.
Developed by His efforts are:

From Awka Zonal Axis. Mr Innocent Otukwu now in USA,

From Enugu Zonal Exis are Mr George Ibediro, living now in Canada

From Abakaliki Zonal Axis are Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo who is now The Technical Director grass root/Schools Sports Boxing talent hunt Co ordinator, Sports Consultant and Activist among others.

Mr Ngozika Ekwelum have played his part as patriotic personnel that called for Nigerians

Or at least Anambra State government to come urgently to his assistance

Considering the high cost of Radio therapy at UNTH Enugu.

As this trial time of Covid 19 is an opportunity for Anambra State Government to show the goodwill of Governor Willie Obiano toward the Health and Wellbeing,Love of Ndi Anambra.

Test of his response to save life and Leadership capacity

Considering that FGN is always in the habit of pushing indigenous people welfare to State Government.

As Most of Nigeria Ex international Athletes from South Eastern states are not care for, by Federal Government of Nigeria.

It’s also came as a surprise to me that Mr Tony Oli the Chairman of Anambra state Sports council, has not triggered or mobilize Anambra state government to come to Ngozika Ekwelum assistance.

Which is regrettable.

It is also important to state that individual effort might not be enough in this situation considering COVID19 pandemic lockdown.

We are calling on Most respected Anambra State government to liaise with Ngozika Ekwelum/Family currently at UNTH Enugu to rescue him.

It would be laudable to also pay the debt being owned to Mr Ngozika Ekwelum during his contract with Anambra State Government.

Secondly as bonifide indigenous person and elder statesman,

Anambra State Government should as a matter of facts pay his hospital bills considering that He is elder statesman

He has gone through Covid 19 process and Lockdown without any single palliatives from Government.

What are the Government For?

We also called on any person with solutions to assist Him through his direct Family (Wife) in this trial time.
