Anambra State Police Command Partners with NAWOJ to Strengthen Campaign Against Gender-Based Violence

The Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Anambra Chapter, has reaffirmed its commitment to combating gender-based violence. The joint effort is part of the ongoing 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, which was observed today, December 6, 2024.

Disclosing this to the newsmen at the Police Headquarters in Awka, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, emphasized the importance of raising awareness and taking decisive action to end violence against women and girls. He noted that the campaign aligns with the Police Command’s longstanding dedication to addressing gender-based violence, sexual harassment, and other related crimes.

SP Ikenga highlighted the specialized units established within the Force to tackle these issues, including the Juvenile, Women & Child (JWC) unit, the Anti-Human Trafficking unit, and the Anti-Child Labour unit. These units are tasked with handling cases involving vulnerable groups with care and professionalism.

The Police Command reiterated its readiness to work with stakeholders and the public to ensure that the rights and safety of women and girls are protected.
