The Anambra State Police Command has successfully rescued two female kidnap victims and arrested four suspects in connection with the crime. The operation was carried out by police operatives attached to the Oba Divisional Headquarters in Idemili South Local Government Area on November 27, 2024, at approximately 11:54 a.m.
The Public Police Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command SP Tochukwu Ikenga disclose this to the newsmen in Awka stated that the suspects, led by 19-year-old Ifechukwu Ibesimako of Aboji Village, Oba, and three accomplices, were apprehended after a ransom of ₦200,000 had been paid for the release of the victims. The victims, aged between 15 and 19, were rescued from captivity in Oba.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the gang lured their victims through social media, posing as friends to gain their trust before abducting them. The victims were then held hostage, and their relatives were coerced into paying ransom for their release.
Further investigations uncovered additional criminal activities carried out by the gang, including the case of another female victim who had previously paid ransom and was released months ago.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has directed that the suspects be transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping and Robbery Squad for comprehensive investigations. He also warned youths to exercise caution while interacting with strangers on social media to avoid falling prey to such schemes.
CP assured the public of the Command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities and maintaining the safety of all residents in Anambra State.
This development highlights the Command’s dedication to safeguarding citizens and ensuring justice is served.
