APC plotting constitutional crisis in PDP – Senator Melaye alleges
The Spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organization, Senator Dino Melaye, has accused the All Progressives Congress, APC of being behind calls for the removal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
Melaye stated this on Monday while fielding questions during a podcast on PDP Crisis organized by the Leadership newspaper.
Recall that PDP had been enmeshed in crisis following the fallout of its presidential primary in June.
Rivers State Governor, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, accused the party of betraying him and breaching its constitution.
But Melaye claims those rooting for Ayu’s removal as the PDP national chairman want to create a constitutional crisis in the opposition party.
“Those trying to create a constitutional crisis in PDP are from the APC, where the party – APC becomes the beneficiary. If you say Ayu should be unceremoniously removed at this point, the provisions of the constitution of PDP states clearly that his replacement must come from his zone.
“Atiku is not a president-elect yet, so why would you take a drug before diagnosing the problem? It is only logical and reasonable to wait for our presidential candidate to become a president-elect.
“But to ask him to resign before then is a deliberate attempt to create a constitutional crisis. And it is a plot of the APC to create a problem for us and that will not happen because the party has means and procedures for running the party”, he said.
