We want to know what N250m was doing in Peter Obi’s convoy – APC tasks Police
The All Progressives Congress, APC, South East zone, has asked the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mohamamed Abubakar, to publish the police report on the N250 million allegedly found in the convoy of the governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, without delay.
In a statement on Tuesday by its zonal publicity secretary, Osita Okechukwu, the party said that in June 2009, the police had intercepted the convoy in front of Mr. Obi’s Next International office in Apapa, Lagos, and found ten suitcases containing N250 million, accompanied by one of the governor’s aides.
It added that though the police were yet to conclude investigation into the money laundering case, the Anambra State House of Assembly passed a resolution, exonerating Mr. Obi, elected on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, from the money haulage.
The party said it had become imperative to publish the report because any vote for Willie Obiano, the APGA candidate in the November 16 Anambra governorship polls, could translate to a vote for continuation of the monthly haulage of N250 million from the state.
“We want the IG to let us know where the investigation stopped. Anambra people deserve to know the about the money found in Governor Obi’s convoy, especially now that they are going to polls to decide who becomes the next governor of the state after Governor Obi,” APC said.
“The fact that Governor Obi is projecting Obiano, a man who has sufficient interest in Fidelity Bank like himself, makes our fears more worrisome. The people in Anambra should not be allowed to vote for the continuous looting of their resources.”
The opposition party also regretted that for seven good years, Mr. Obi never bought any traditional ruler a vehicle, “but now the election is three weeks away, he has been going about presenting jeeps to traditional rulers and town union presidents in a desperate bid to install his business partner.”
The party deplored the propaganda against its candidate in the election, Chris Ngige, insisting that Mr. Obi was merely raking up mundane and tribal issues, in his desperate attempt to denigrate Mr. Ngige.
