The Imoka festival is the annual festival celebrated by Awka people. The current pandemic has left little or no hope for the imoka celebration this year.

Rumours making the rounds have it that date has been mapped out for 2020 Umuokpu day and Imoka festival ,respectively.
In fact, some indigenes of Awka sighted inside Nkwelle Community via Ring Road,Awka ,who armed themselves with Anyachu- Egwu Imoka( cane), confidently told the reporter that, 0n 27th May,2020 is for Umuokpu while 7th June , 2020 is fixed for Egwu Imoka Celebration.
But when the indigenes were asked the source of their information in order to ascertain the authenticity of their information , they said that they heard it on the radio as allegedly announced by the Acting Chief Priest ( Eze Imoka) of Imoka goddess.

In swift response via a telephone conversion, the Chief Priest of Imoka Deity, Onyebuchi Ikegbunam (Alias: Nkwo Nna buchi) denied speaking on any radio platform on this year Egwu Imoka.
Eze Imoka added that, once Awka enters its Lunar period, masquerades are expected to be seen in Awka Community but nobody should destroy people’s property or cause chaos in the name of Imoka as Imoka Deity is a peace loving goodness.
“Anybody telling you that I went to a radio platform and broadcasted that I fixed 27th May,2020 for Umuokpu and 7th June ,2020 for Egwu Imoka, is a false rumour peddler because I have fixed no date for this year Egwu Imoka.
