*’Coronavirus is Real, Serious’

Following the Coronavirus (COVID-19) first index case in Anambra State, the Catholic bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, says he is unfazed about what he described as ugly news, emphasizing that he had absolute faith and confidence in God to arrest the situation, assuring that God was still in control of the latest development.
Bishop Ezeokafor who stated this while delivering Easter message through a recorded video broadcast called on Christians all over the world to use the period of the current coronavirus pandemic to commit themselves to the service of God and humanity.
He charged all to accept the reality of COVID-19 infection and submit themselves to God in prayer to enable them overcome the challenge.
His words, ‘We have opportunity to see what happened to our brothers and sisters . We have seen what happened in other places; so, we should be able to learn our lessons and do whatever is proper to get over this deadly disease.
Bishop Ezeokafor enjoined Christians not to ignore the reality of the pandemic but should follow the guidelines recommended by government and health experts to secure themselves and their neigbhours without compromising the position of their faith.
‘Heaven helps those who help themselves . Let us not take things for granted. There is this tendency amongst us to say no, it is not serious. COVID-19 is real and serious. We have seen it work. When this is over , things will return to normalcy.
‘Let us not go about saying, we must do things the normal way we have been doing it. It will not work this time because it is clear. Coronavirus is real. Do not take things for granted,’ Bishop Ezeokafor appealed.
The Catholic prelate reminded all people that during the Nigeria -Biafra civil war, certain things, including religious rites were low-keyed so that people survived.
‘God is still in control and therefore the need for prayers,’ he said.
