CP Orutugu Pushes for Stronger Security Measures at UNIZIK, Plans New Police Post in Ifite-Awka

In a bid to strengthen security in Anambra State, Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc MNIPS PhD, has intensified efforts to collaborate with key stakeholders. On Monday, he paid a familiarization visit to the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu, to discuss security concerns affecting the institution and its surroundings.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, revealed this to newsmen in Awka in a press release, stating that during the meeting, CP Orutugu proposed the establishment of a police post at Ifite-Awka on land donated by the university management.

According to SP Ikenga, the initiative aims to curb criminal activities, improve emergency response, and ensure the safety of students, faculty, and residents in the Ifite and Amansea areas.

The Commissioner, who was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, DCP Moses Gana, and Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, ACP James Ihiabe, emphasized the need for proactive policing in the university environment, given past security challenges in the area.

To enhance security efforts, the Anambra State Police Command is focusing on;

Gathering intelligence to improve policing strategies.

Strengthening community trust in law enforcement.

Leveraging academic resources and expertise for security operations.

Feveloping joint initiatives to tackle security threats.

In response, Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ikechebelu commended CP Orutugu for his dedication to security and expressed confidence in his ability to combat crime, especially within the university community.

The visit marks a step forward in bridging the gap between law enforcement and the academic sector, reinforcing CP Orutugu’s commitment to a safer Anambra State.
