Full Text Of Gov Obiano’s New Year Message To Ndi Anambra
Ndi Anambra ekenem unu.
With humility and gratitude to Almighty God, I welcome you to the New Year. After a highly eventful 2021, we must all thank God for bringing us into another year.
Ndi Anambra, year 2021 will go down in history as an outstanding year in the public memory of Anambra State. It was the year when against incredible odds, Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport Umueri became a reality. Today, the airport has restored the pride of our people so much that even some of our brothers who fought against it have started to land in that airport. That is the beauty of vision. A visionary initiative is a gift to humanity. It is useful to everyone.
Similarly, year 2021 was also the year that Ndi Anambra demonstrated their extraordinary political maturity to the world. You did that when you rose against intimidation and a frightening political climate to cast your votes for APGA in the November 6, 2021 gubernatorial election. Your remarkable courage in the face of threats to personal safety has given us Prof Chukwuma Soludo and Dr Onyekachi Ibezim as the Governor-elect and Deputy Governor-elect respectively. Ndi Anambra you have made this great state proud. You have made Ndigbo proud. You have set a great example for the 2023 general election in Nigeria. I am very proud of you.
Ndi Anambra, 2021 was also the year my administration gave Awka a dazzling new stadium. Awka City Stadium is a child of necessity. Our capital city needed a first class sporting facility to cater to the growing needs of the emerging urban lifestyle. We have all seen the popularity of the Walk4Life programme which awakened the citizenry to the importance of active lifestyle. We were also witnesses to the 12th edition of the Nigeria Police Games hosted by our great state. Awka City Stadium offers a first class recreational and sporting facility for nurturing local talents that will bring honour to Anambra State in sports. Meanwhile, work has reached finishing stages on the International Conference Center. I have no doubt that it will be ready for use before March 17 this year. So, I look forward to March 17 with pride because my colleagues and I shall leave you with monuments, landmarks and keepsakes to remember our time here.
Ndi Anambra, this is a very important year for our dear state. This year is a new beginning for Anambra and for APGA. It is the year we have all prayed for and waited for. I urge you to free your minds from the bitterness that marked the battle for the governorship of Anambra State and join hands with the ruling party to build a prosperous state.
I call on our brothers and sisters in other parties to join hands with the in-coming governor and place our dear state in an enviable position. We fought the war together, now, let us work together for the greatness of our dear state.
I call on the illustrious sons and daughters of this state who have been planting investments and developing different parts of Nigeria and beyond to answer the Aku luo uno call this year and remember Anambra in their business plan.
I call for peace and brotherly love among us. I call for the revival of the great Anambra Spirit which moves fierce political enemies to set aside their differences and share a glass of wine at weddings, title-taking ceremonies and other events that strengthen our sense of community. That is who we are! A loving and forgiving people!
This year shall be a great year for Anambra State.
God bless Anambra State.
God bless Nigeria.
Thank you.
Willie Obiano.
