Gusau Wins Big Against Okowa-Led AFN Board

GUSAU WINS BIG AGAINST OKOWA-LED AFN BOARD

A Federal High Court Judge, Hon. Justice A.L Allagoa sitting in Lagos today Tuesday, November 2, 2021 dismissed a suit filed by Mr. Solomon A. Alao, a member of the Okowa-led AFN Board.

The Okowa led board which suffered a humiliating defeat in Court today sought to invalidate the Elective Congress of the AFN held in Kebbi State which elected Hon. Ibrahim Shehu-Gusau as President and other members of the AFN Board.
It also sought ;
A Declaration that the parallel Elective Congress held in Kebbi State on the 14th of June, 2021 without compliance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria is null and void and of no effect.

b. A Declaration that all the decisions, proceedings, results, actions, representations and/or documents made at the purported Elective Congress held on the 14th day of 2021 at Kebbi State in relation to the affairs and/or elections of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria are invalid or of no effect.

c. An Order setting aside results, decisions, proceedings, actions, representations and/or documents made at the purported Elective Congress held on the 14th day of 2021 at Kebbi State.

d. An Order of this Honourable Court upholding the results and decisions of the Elective Congress convened by the Secretary General of Athletics Federation of Nigeria and held on the 13th and 14th of June, 2021 at Abuja as being valid results as the elections of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria.

e. An Order of Perpetual Injunction restraining the 1st and 2nd Defendants from parading themselves or further parading themselves as elected President or First Vice President respectively of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria.

However, upon being served with the Originating processes, Mr. Chinedu G. Udora, the counsel to Hon. Ibrahim Shehu-Gusau and Mr Sunday Adeleye, raised a Notice of Preliminary Objection to the jurisdiction of the Court and the competence of the said suit. The Court in delivering judgment in the matter this morning, upheld the Preliminary Objection of counsel to Gusau and dismissed the suit.

With this Judgment, the Elective Congress of the AFN held in Kebbi State, which produced the Board of the AFN led by Hon. Ibrahim Shehu Gusau remains valid and the substantive board of AFN.
