Main reasons Bus, Keke drivers protested in Anambra State

On Tuesday, there was a protest at Onitsha by commercial bus drivers against Prof Soludo’s govt

Yesterday, there was another protest by Keke operators against Prof Soludo govt.

The bus drivers were asked to pay 25,000 levy monthly. While Keke operators were to pay 15,000 monthly.

Under the last administration, Keke drivers paid 450 naira daily to the state govt. The protest is that under gov Obiano, an operator paid 450 naira daily if he worked that day. If he was sick, travelled or didnt go to work, he won’t pay. It is modern because it is in line with pay-as-you-go policy.

But with this new policy, whether you worked or not, even if your bus or Keke was parked at the mechanic, or your car knocked engine, once you are a registered commercial driver or Keke operator, you must pay the monthly tax to the state govt.

And the big question is, from where will someone whose bus or Keke is at the mechanic or he is injured and at the hospital get money to pay the monthly tax of 25,000 naira or 15,000 naira monthly for buses or Keke respectively.

This is why the operators are protesting.
