Nigerian legion Enugu State holds peacful election, elects new leadership

Barr. Emeka Igwesi, Thursday, 24th of June, 2021, emerged Chairman of Nigerian legion, Enugu State constituency in a free, fair and peaceful election.

Other winners of the election included Warrant Officer, Peter Okoro from Udenu LGA of Enugu state who emerged vice Chairman while comrade Frank Onyeagwa, from Awgu LGA emerged treasurer of the union.

Declaring the results of the exercise, Dr. Jude Alozie, the returning officer, said Barr. Emeka Igwesi had complied with the provisions of the military ex-service men and the guidelines of the electoral committee, headed by the Special Adviser to the Governor of Enugu State on Inter-Party affairs, Rt. Hon. Barr. Jonathan Chukwuma.

Dr. Alozie said Barr. Igwesi and his co-winners contested the election without rivals and ranchor as they garnered 16 votes each to clinch their respective positions.

He said a total of 16 delegates were registered of which 16 accredited and 16 voted for each winner of the election.

The returning officer issued the chairman, vice chairman and treasurer return certificates as delegates chaired them.

In his remark, chairman of the electoral committee, Rt. Hon. Barr. Jonathan Chukwuma, who was on the 17th of June, 2021 appointed Chairman of the electoral committee by the Governor of Enugu state, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, congratulated the new chairman and his co-winners on their victory while charging them to carry their members along in the discharge of their responsibilities.

The former deputy speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly thanked his principal and Governor of the state for providing every logistics necessary for the smooth conduct of the exercise, and ensuring a hitch free and most peaceful election of Nigerian legion in the state.

The SPA also used the occasion to charge the military ex-servicemen to deploy their already proven wealth of experience garnered over many years of military service to the nation to restore peace in Nigeria, especially as the country undergoes the most trying time of its history.

He further commended the Governor of the state for ensuring peace and ensuring Enugu becomes the most peaceful in the nation.

Speaking after receiving certificate of return, the newly elected chairman of Nigerian legion, Barr. Emeka Igwesi thanked the Governor of Enugu state and the electoral committee for ensuring a hitch free election in the state.

He further assured his members that the Nigerian legion, Enugu State Constituency under his watch will work to continue ensuring the interest of the union is protected.

Other members of the committee for the conduct of the election who were present during the event included Hon. Erochukwu Ugwueze, Special Adviser to the Governor; Dr. Sam Ugwueze, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties and Hon. Chinedu Nwoye, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Religious Matters
