The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP Ekiti State chapter has called on the state government to defray the outstanding gratuities and unpaid arrears they are being owed from the expected bail out fund which the federal government promised to give to state governments.
At a news conference in Ado Ekiti, the state Chairman of NUP, Comrade Joel Akinola said the government was owing them eight years gratuities, three months pension arrears for state pensioners and seven months arrears for local government Retirees.
Comrade Akinola said it was expedient for the state government to pay all pension arrears and gratuities for both state and local government Pensioners before the end of 2021.
“It is a sad thing that the old are being neglected in this age and there is a need to clamour for inclusion, Our members are vulnerable to all sorts of old age related ailments”.
The Ekiti State NUP Chairman called for the regular and prompt payment of the entitlements in order to take care of themselves and eat the fruit of their labour while alive.

He appreciated the Governor of the state for being consistent in the payment of the monthly emoluments of Public Servants and Pensioners since he has assumed office.
Comrade Akinola appealed to Governor Fayemi to reinstate the one hundred million naira monthly allocation to liquidate the unpaid gratuities.
“This appeal is expedient in view of the rate at which the value of our naira is falling, the increasing mortality rate of our members, among others”.
“We urge that our plight is resolved and should not be seen as an abandoned project as it is a life threatening issue”.
