Obaseki neglects Edo, in Abuja to lobby APC NWC members for a second term ticket

Amid a pandemic that has claimed more patients in Edo State with rising confirmed cases, and a government response effort that failed to offer relief to the people following crippling restrictions, Governor Godwin Obaseki has left the state for Abuja where he is lobbying members of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress over the scheduled primary election, according to reports.

Godwin Obaseki’s bid to run for another term has been plagued with a number of setbacks, including the choice of a party platform to utilize following his widespread rejection by members of the All Progressives Congress, a situation that places him on the path of a huge defeat at the primaries, and the reported condition by the PDP for him to drop his Deputy and choose a running mate from their ranks.
Also, his planned defection to the Action Alliance has stalled over concerns of the party’s relative newness and the state, Obaseki’s personal lack of popularity, and the absence of a defined political structure in the state.

The governor is now making last-ditch efforts to persuade APC NWC members to see if he can secure the party’s tickets. The lobbying is reported to cost huge sums of money that will be sourced from the Edo State treasury.
He is also trying to amend his filed documents with the electoral body, INEC, after discrepancies in his academic certificates rose to the surface again, raising the possibility of disqualification, similar to what took place in Bayelsa State.
