The Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano earlier today ordered the closure ofobi the Eke Awka Market till further story reports Alexander Johnson Adejoh and Chioma Ndife
This was made known to newsmen in a public service announcement signed today Thursday June 11, 2020 by Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, Secretary to Anambra State Government.
The announcement noted that with effect from Monday, 15th June, 2020, Eke Awka Market, in Awka South Local Government will be shut down.
This was as a result of non-compliance to Covid-19 protocols of wearing protective face masks, provision of running water and soap and maintenance of physical distance by market traders and customers alike.
Fides also gathered that the statement captured that effective from the same date, curfew in Awka South local government will be from 8pm to 6am daily not 10pm as earlier announced, until further notice.
Part of the statement reads’These actions by the government is as a result of increased cases of Covid-19 in Awka South Local Government.
‘The government is also putting other market leaders and local government councils in the state on notice that a similar curfew action will be taken, and markets in the local government closed down if it is observed that such markets do not observe Covid-19 protocols,’ the announcement stated.
