Osun Assembly passes 2022 budget, to consider tenure extension for LG caretaker committees
The Osun State House of Assembly has signed the 2021 Osun Appropriation Bill (Osun budget 2022) into law.
The budget, which totalled one hundred and twenty nine billion, seven hundred and fifty six million, four hundred and fifty thousand, seven hundred and ninety Kobo (N129.756.450.790) has a recurrent expenditure of N53,893,627,990 and a capital expenditure which stands at N75,862,822,800.
The budget which was “Budget of Sustainable Development” by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola while presenting it on the floor of the House on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 is 19 billion Naira higher than that of the 2021 “Budget of Providence”.
Speaking after the passing of the budget, the Speaker of the House, Timothy Owoeye, commended the state legislators and the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation for the effort in considering the 2021 Appropriation Bill.
While warning that no government agency or ministry should tamper with or alter the official figures in the 2022 budget, Owoeye explained that such an act would be taken as a criminal offence which may attract serious legal implications.
The Speaker also assured that the House would be alive to its responsibilities while regular interactions would be held with the ministries, departments and agencies and the people on budget performance and feedback.
In the Osun 2022 budget, N18.7 billion is earmarked for infrastructure, N11.8 billion for education while the sum of N5.8 billion was earmarked for the health sector.
Separately, the Osun State Governor, has written the Osun State House of Assembly seeking another six months tenure elongation for local government caretaker committee members.
The Speaker who made this known to the House promised that the Assembly will look into the request and directed the House Committee on Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs to commence duties before the final consideration of the request.
