A Russian defense ministry cargo plane crashed in the Ivanovo region, northeast of Moscow, shortly after taking off from a western Russian air base. The aircraft, identified as an Ilyushin Il-76, had 15 individuals on board, comprising eight crew members and seven passengers. According to reports from Russian online media, there are no survivors, as per media reports.

The Russian defense minister has indicated that the crash may have been caused by an engine fire during takeoff. Disturbing videos circulating online show the plane engulfed in flames shortly before it went down, with one engine visibly on fire. The crash site was characterized by a dark plume of smoke emanating from the wreckage.

A viral post on X (formerly Twitter) shows a harrowing image of the aircraft, with one engine engulfed in flames, descending rapidly toward the ground. The photo captures the moment before the plane crashes, with a dark plume of smoke rising from the impact site.

In January, there was a significant plane crash involving a Russian military transport aircraft, specifically an Ilyushin-76, in the southern Belgorod region near Ukraine. The Russian Ministry of Defence disclosed that the plane was transporting 65 captured Ukrainian military personnel, slated for a potential prisoner exchange. Subsequent to the crash, Ukrainian military intelligence released a statement accusing Russia of endangering the lives of prisoners of war.
