Sen Victor Umeh Blasts Gov Yahaya Bello Over Statement On Igbo Presidency

Talking to the state house correspondents, during a visit to the President, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state said that the north central where he comes from desires to be considered for the presidency more than south east. Unlike the south east, the north central has not produced the president of Nigeria and that he has all the qualities Nigerians want in a leader to be the president of Nigeria. Bello said he also disagreed with the position of Ohaneze that zoning the president to the south east is a key ingredient for National growth.

Sen Umeh reacts….

“It’s so unfortunate that when we are talking about efforts on how to cement National unity and promote joint efforts towards National development, some people will continue to talk as if they are operating from outside Nigeria because of personal interest. “Gov Bello should not be economical with the truth. “That north central has not produced president and should be placed side by side with south east is putting the history in the reverse. The agitation for the rotation of the office of the president is between north and south, then geo political zone.

“President Buhari is from Katsina state, north west and after his eight years, power should not go to north central as Gov Bello is preaching but south.

“Gov Yahaya Bello can’t claim that at his age and his involvement in Nigerian politics that he doesn’t know the zones that have provided the president of Nigeria so far.

“North central has six states ,Niger, Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi. “Ibrahim Babangida is from Niger state and was the military president for eight years. “As a military president, he was the maximum ruler.

“Abdulsalam Abubakar is from Niger state and was a military president. “The father of them all is Yakubu Gowon who is from Plateau state and presided over the affairs of Nigeria for eight years (1966 to 1975)

“When people are complaining about injustice, I don’t like it when others play with it. “Gov Bello is completely out of sequence and events in history of Nigeria and what he is saying can’t be compared with a zone that has not produced Nigerian president before”.
