Anambra 2021: Soludo Denies Getting APGA Ticket

Our attention has been drawn to a rather funny article entitled “Soludo Gets APGA Ticket” and published by the Nation newspaper of Wednesday, 14th September, 2020.
Without prejudice to the Nation’s source of information, we make bold to state as follows on behalf of Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR:
a) The next governorship election in Anambra state is probably in November 2021.
b) INEC is yet to announce the timetable for the election, including timelines for party primaries and submission of party candidates.
c) Political parties including APGA are yet to announce their guidelines and timetable for the party primaries let alone organize primaries.
d) Despite the fact that more than 25 self funding stakeholder groups and majority of Ndi Anambra are clamoring and pressuring that Prof Soludo should contest and succeed Gov Obiano, he has not declared interest. While he appreciates the massive goodwill and support, he has repeatedly advised everyone to commit their request to prayers and that God’s will be done. Soludo insists that he is too busy with state, national, and international duties to be distracted with an election that is at least 14 months away.
e) If Soludo eventually decides to bow to the people’s wish, he will, as a democrat, go through the process, including party primaries to become a candidate, if elected by the delegates.
It is therefore surprising that a reputable newspaper as the Nation will cast such a misleading headline before the party primaries. For sure, there’s no amount of scheme to stampede Soludo to jump into the ring prematurely that will succeed.
