Ten Dead, Others Injured In Kwara Road Accident

Ten persons have reportedly lost their lives in a fatal multiple auto crash which occurred on Bode Saadu-Jebba highway in Moro Local Government of Kwara State on Friday.

Seventeen people were involved in the multiple auto crashes, but seven males, one female, and two female children died in the incident, which occurred at Ilupupa village.

Three vehicles were involved in the fatal crash according to the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, in the state, Frederick Ade Ogidan.

He disclosed that about N60,750 in cash was recovered at the scene of the crash, blamed on wrongful overtaking and overspeeding.

The vehicles involved in the crash were “a Green coloured private Volkswagen Sharan car registered AKD 733FX, a private gold-coloured car registered GWA 22DD, driven by one Oladokun Waheed and a white coloured commercial vehicle registered DTS 139XA owned by Darmarna Petroleum Ltd.”

The dead were deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital mortuary, Ilorin, while the injured were taken to Shalom Hospital, Bode Saadu.

The police from Jebba Divisional Police Station took custody of the vehicles involved in the auto crash.

The sector commander attributed the cause of the auto crash to wrongful overtaking and speed violations.

While advising motorists to be cautious of the way they speed and overtake, he said the safety corps will commence another round of enforcement on speed violations and overloading from Monday next week.

“The safety corps cannot tolerate a situation where 10 lives are lost in a single auto crash,” he added.
