Anambra State Police command has paraded two brothers for robbery in Awka. The suspects who are university undergraduates were paraded at the Central Police Station, B Division Awka.
Briefing Journalists, the Anambra state Commissioner of Police Mr. John Abang said the suspects, Chigozie Simon Twenty-one years old and his brother Onyeka Simon Twenty-two, natives of Aguata were apprehended with the help of residents of UNIZIK Temporary Site Awka by police operatives attached to B’Division Awka.
According to him, the Suspects who claimed to be brothers from same parents are undergraduates of two prestigious institutions in Anambra and Enugu States.
He said they allegedly broke into a jewelry shop at UNIZIK Temporary Site Awka where they tied up and covered the mouth of the sales girl to prevent her from attracting attention of passersby and made away with over thirty-three wrist watches, fourteen necklaces of different prices as well as cash sum of thirty seven thousand naira.
The Anambra Police Commissioner who spoke through the Police Public Relation Officer of the command, Mr. Haruna Mohammed stated that the sale girl later managed to raise alarm immediately the suspects left the scene which led to the arrests of the suspects and disclosed that they voluntarily confessed to the crime.
Mr Abang said that investigation is ongoing after which they would be charged to court and urged the public who were victims of similar robbery incidents to report at B’ Division Awka to enable the Police conduct discreet investigation into the matter.
The two suspects Mr. Chigozie Simon and Onyeka Simon in an interview admitted committing the crime and said that they were forced into such crime because they were running out of options to see themselves through school as their parents abandoned them at a little age.
The suspects pleaded for forgiveness from the public, saying it was their first time of involving themselves in such an unlawful act.
