It is with great trepidation that we condemn in totality the article published by sun news on 12/01/2022 with the above caption over the killing of one Mr Tagbo Okoye, a 53-year old man whose lifeless body was found on a disputed farmland at Omor-Anaku boundary, Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra state. This article could have been ignored as it is not just false, but also petty, however, in the light of recent happenings and in the bid to set straight the records, this rebuttal became pertinent and highly inevitable.

Anaku is a peace loving community who, over the years, has maintained some degrees of cordiality with her neighbours amidst provocations. Just like every other community in Nigeria, and Anambra state in particular, there are always some very minute, highly infinitesimal hot-headed persons that are capable of acting as clogs in the wheels of success of their respective communities. Hence, Anaku as a community is not an exception. As a community, Anaku has always handled miscreants according to the stipulations of the law. Interestingly, it’s on record that the Anaku vigilante group has to its credit the Anambra state best security outfit award for the locality in 2019.

Upon receiving the police invitation concerning the reported death of one Mr Tagbo Okoye and the allegation that an Anaku man is fingered, the community immediately mobilized her internal security forces to effect the arrest of such individual(s) and hand over to the police for interrogations. With the full support of the internal security forces, the police have been able to take on some individuals for questioning.

Does it then therefore not follow, and by mere profundity of reasoning, that a community who is mobilizing for the arrest and prosecution of alleged killers is ignorant of the actions taken by the miscreants and never sanctioned such a heinous and sacrilegious act? How could a community send a killer and make a U-turn to arrest the person?

If the community sanctioned such actions, then the community has no business mobilizing and working with the police to arrest the suspect(s).

It is rather mischievous for the Omor community to be sponsoring these articles targeted at denting the good image of Anaku community and paint her fetish, evil and wicked. The Omor people are frustrating the investigation of the alleged killing by their constant unwarranted comments and sponsored publications. This matter is now with the government and the government through their machinery should be allowed to conclude the investigations to ascertain if truly the man was killed as well as the reasons behind the act.

ON THE EKWENSU DEITY AND SACRIFICES:

This is just to guide the general public who might have read the thrash poorly constructed, written and sponsored by Ndi-Omor.

The EKWENSU deity is just another deity like many deities in Igboland and beyond. The law guarantees people’s freedom of religion. Although Anaku community has a substantial number of Reverend fathers and other clergies, few ones that choose to be pagans have the constitutional rights to do so freely. The deity does not demand human but animal sacrifices. Such barbaric practices of human sacrifice have not been recorded anywhere in Anaku.

Again, the season of “Igo-Mmuo” or the celebration of the EKWENSU deity is not January and even at that, the deity accepts only animals for sacrifice.

The above titled article written and sponsored by Ndi Omor is dubiously aimed at tarnishing the good image of Anaku before the eyes of right thinking members of the reading public. The people of Omor are well aware that the EKWENSU deity accepts only animal sacrifices just like other deities in Igboland including Ajana-Ukwu and Erenru deities in Omor. The public is hereby notified to thrash and disregard such baseless and hateful remarks and publications.

It is only Ndi Omor that can explain why they so much hate Anaku and every other community in Ayamelum Local Government Area.

This same Omor people invaded Anaku on the 15/16th of May 2021, destroyed properties worth billions of naira, and killed ten (10) persons including two Policemen, ASP Felix Ngwu and Sgt. Chinonye Nnanwa, attached to the police divisional headquarter Anaku, all in the name of hate for Ndi Anaku. This same Omor community invaded Igbakwu and Umumbo communities, in July 1998 and May 2020 respectively, decimated people and wantonly destroyed properties all in the name of hate. The list can go on. Therefore the Omor community is trying to sway the mind of the public and the state security forces and divert the attention from the recent killing of military personnel stationed at Omor as well as the gruesome murder of one Mr Madubuegwu Anaedo of Umumbo alongside with his pregnant wife (Chinecherem Nwogbo) in the middle of Omor community. Mr Madubuegwu until his death was said to be living with his family and working as a vulcanizer at Omor junction before the ill-fated day he was shot dead with his pregnant wife.

So, it behoves therefore on the government and the reading public to investigate these allegations above and find out the truths and lies in all of these.

The public is therefore notified to disregard and ignore such baseless and hateful remarks being peddled by Ndi Omor against the peace loving Anaku people.

Time they say will tell. Here, time will reveal the killers and their motives as the investigations continue.

Anaku did not send anyone to kill anybody and will not do so.
Anaku is a peace loving community.
Anaku will always work with the police and the government to ensure peace and order in Anambra state.
