Barely nine months into inauguration of Traffic and Management Committee, set up by Governor Bababjide Sanwo-Olu, in collaboration with the Nigeria Ports Authority, NPA, all efforts to restore sanity, law and order in Apapa and environs have failed as chaotic gridlock persists along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.
Motorists and commuters have repeatedly sent complaints to Governor Sanwo-Olu over the menace and illegal activities of truck drivers parking indiscriminately on the highway and inner streets along the area.
The situation got worse on Thursday, as trucks and articulated vehicles shut down traffic caused by the traffic team, responsibile for ensuring free flow of traffic……

The tax war between the Federal Government and some states has taken a new twist as 36 states of the federation, through their Attorneys-General, have dragged the Federal Government to the Supreme Court over alleged failure to remit funds generated from stamp duties into state accounts.
This comes as the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, lampooned the government over alleged actions and policies….

Kaduna govt directs schools to open September 12
The Kaduna State Government has directed public and private primary and secondary schools in the state to resume on September 12 for First Term, 2021/2022 academic session.
Hajiya Umma Ahmed, the Director-General, Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance, issued the order in the State’s 2021/2022 School’s Calendar for primary and secondary schools, made available to journalists in Kaduna on Thursday.
According to her, the First Term will run from Sept. 12 to Dec. 17; Second Term, Jan. 9, 2022, to April 8, 2022; and Third Term, Aug. 6, 2022, to Sept. 3, 2022…..

Court dismisses suit seeking to reinstate Secondus
A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, on Thursday refused to entertain a suit filed by the Uche Secondus led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) restraining the party and any other members of the party from calling, summoning or presiding over any meeting of the party whatsoever including the meeting of any committee of the party, any congress of the party, the National Working Committee, the National Executive Committee and the National Convention except the one called by Uche Secondus, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
Justice Tijjani Ringim, declined to entertain the suit on the ground that the suit is unripe for hearing and that the defendants are yet to respond to the motion…..

Lagos Assembly receives Sanwo-Olu’s request to amend 2021 Appropriation Law
The Lagos State House of Assembly has received Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s request to amend the 2021 Appropriation Law, almost nine months after its passage.
The Speaker, Mr Mudashiru Obasa, made the announcement at plenary on Thursday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the assembly on Dec. 29, 2020, passed the state government’s N1.164 trillion budget for 2021.
Obasa said the governor was requesting the assembly to authorise the reordering of N460.58 billion, to N496.26 billion for the recurrent expenditure; and N702.93 billion to N759.59 billion, for the capital expenditure….
