Super Falcons head coach, Randy Waldrum hailed his side’s remarkable fighting spirit in their victory against Australia on Thursday.
The Falcons clawed back from a goal down to inflict a 3-2 defeat on the co-hosts at the Brisbane Stadium.
Waldrum’s side were pinned back early in the game and it took a couple of smart saves from Chiamaka Nnadozie to deny the Matildas.
Australia finally took the lead in first half stoppage time.
Nigeria however produced a stunning fightback with Uchenna Kanu, Osinachi Ohale and Asisat Oshoala hitting the net.
Waldrum was impressed with his side’s performance in the game and stated that they can beat any team in the competition.
“The mentality of the team is incredible. It would have been easy to give up before halftime after they scored, but they responded immediately.
“They showed great resilience to come back and turn the game around in the second half. I just think the team has incredible spirit, and the chemistry together is unbelievable. As long as we have that, we can beat anybody,” Waldrum was quoted by VM.
The Super Falcons will face the already eliminated Republic of Ireland in their last group game on Monday.
A point from the game will be enough for them to seal a place in the Round of 16.
