Ward Chairman Cries For Help as Boat Carrying Goods Worth Millions Capsize in Biase River

The Ward Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Erei South Ward in Biase Local Government Area, Mr. Obin Obin Egwu has lost his over two million naira worth of goods today as boat conveying his goods and that of others to the point of sale capsize into the river, leaving one persons still missing.

The unfortunate incident which occurred around 2am along Ikot Okpora – Umon axis of the river, was largely attributed to poor weather condition and thunderstorms.

While addressing our correspondent, Mr. Obin who is equally a university graduate of Accountancy noted that he resulted to trading to support himself and family while waiting for better opportunities. He further explained that he buys garri in large quantities from Riverain communities in Biase LGA, bagged and convey them through the river to various points of sale like: Calabar, Itu and other shores.

He called on government at various levels, his party (PDP) bigwigs and other well meaning individuals in the state and beyond to activate the spirit of humanity and come to his urgent rescue, as this was his major source of livelihood.

Just as Mr. Obin, the wife of the Boat owner, Mrs. Egwu equally lost her 40 bags of garri to the unfortunate incident. Also in the boat was about 7 bags of garri belongings to one Mr. Mola from Ablijang, 10 bags belonging to Madam Peace from Ekori, Mr. Kelechi from Afikpo Ebonyi State also lost 15 bags, Mrs. Saint from Ekori lost 10 bags while Mr. Godwin Ukam lost 10 bags.
